چکیده

Status of this Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of Source-Specific Multicast (SSM) and issues related to its deployment. It discusses how the SSM service model addresses the challenges faced in inter-domain multicast deployment, changes needed to routing protocols and applications to deploy SSM and interoperability issues with current multicast service models.

Using Internet Group Management Protocol Version 3 (IGMPv3) and Multicast Listener Discovery Protocol Version 2 (MLDv2) for Source-Specific Multicast

The Internet Group Management Protocol Version 3 (IGMPv3) and the Multicast Listener Discovery Protocol Version 2 (MLDv2) are protocols that allow a host to inform its neighboring routers of its desire to receive IPv4 and IPv6 multicast transmissions, respectively. Source-specific multicast (SSM) is a form of multicast in which a receiver is required to specify both the network-layer address of...

An Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks

The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...

Experiences of Any Source and Source Specific Multicast Implementation in Experimental Network

Any Source Multicast (ASM) called Internet Standard Multicast (ISM) and its extension, Specific Source Multicast (SSM), are two known multicast technologies for delivering a data flow to a great number of customers over IP networks without cumulative bandwidth consumption. ASM technology is suitable for the many-to-many delivering model such as videoconferencing, where more sources are sending ...

SSM extensions: network layer support for multiple senders in SSM

Source Specific Multicast (SSM) provides native support for single sender multicast applications. Current proposals for supporting multiple sender applications on top of SSM includes using multiple SSM channels or using an application layer relay mechanism on top of SSM. These approaches have potential scalability or single point of failure problems, respectively. In this paper, we propose netw...

SSM-ping: A ping utility for source specific multicast

Management has become a key concern for the success of multicast deployment in the Internet. One of the most important management tasks for multicast is to verify the availability of the service to its users. This task is referred to as discovering or testing reachability. In this paper, we present a new mechanism, SSM-Ping, for discovering multicast reachability between (remote) end systems in...
